Last weekend we headed up to the mountains for a family reunion with my dad's side of the family. It was two days packed with activities and fun. I think for Jaden being in the mountains was really good for him. Within 10 minutes of getting up there he said he wanted to go home because he was bored. Luckily he found second cousins to play with and cool activities to do. The first thing that Jaden did was throwing a tomahawk. The poor kid tried and tried but never got the tomahawk in the log. He may be too much of a city kid!
Between some of the activities the kids found a bucket and decided to make mountain soup. What is camping without getting dirty? The kids had a blast with the soup thing but I came to hate it.
The next activity was rocket shooting. Everybody got to make their own rocket out of paper and tape. Then they got to shoot it with some contraption my cousin made. They all had a contest to see who could shoot their rocket the farthest. Claire was so excited to shoot her rocket the first time that she almost shot the rocket at my dad's head. That launcher is a pretty powerful thing.
The next activity for the day was to build a covered wagon out of cardboard and tape. I was supposed to build the wagon myself but my dad and uncle Doug kind of took over and did a lot of the work. Claire loved to paint the cardboard. I think painting is one of her favorite things to do. After making our wagon we drove our wagon around to separate pioneer activities.
The next day was filled with games for younger kids, a service project, and activities for older kids. Jaden was able to go with Corbin to do the older kids activities. They were able to shoot a bow and arrow and they also shot a gun. Jaden had a blast with those activities. Maelyn and Claire got to paint a wooden snake, make necklaces and bracelets, and participate in a ton of other games. My aunts and uncles did a lot of planning for this reunion. I think everybody had a ton of fun. It was good to go to the mountains and escape the city life and spend time with my family.

Oh how I love the mountains. In fact, I would live in the mountains if they had a walmart close by :) Looks like you had a blast! What a lot of work! Glad their efforts were worth it!
So glad you had such a great reunion with your family. It looked like lots of fun for all--and lots of planning for the adults. So glad you have such a neat family.
